Dermal Fillers

What is a dermal filler?

Dermal fillers are an injectable gel which can be used to soften unwanted lines, rejuvenate thin or ageing lips, add volume to and lift saggy areas of the face and jawline.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which dermal fillers are used at FaceWorks?

There are many types of HA filler available worldwide but at FaceWorks we have selected to use only the most commonly used ranges, made in France and  Switzerland. These brands are among the most popular worldwide and are considered to be extremely well-tested and safe.

All of the dermal fillers we use are a complex sugar (hyaluronic acid or HA) which is found naturally within the tissues of the body, including skin. The different types of hyaluronic acid filler used at FaceWorks all have slightly different methods of manufacture and all have different properties when injected. For instance, some fillers are better at “lifting” and plumping while others are preferable for fine lines and improving skin texture.

Fillers may last from 6 months to more than 18 months – the longevity depends on many factors including age and skin condition of the patient, whether or not you are a smoker and which filler was used. At your initial consultation one of our clinicians will be able to advise which dermal filler would be right for you depending on what your treatment goals are.

Are there any side effects?

Before proceeding with any injectable treatment at FaceWorks, the possible risks and side effects will be discussed in full with you by your clinician and you will be given written information to take away and consider.

The most common side effects are bruising, redness and swelling and tenderness at the injection site. There may be small lumps or nodules palpable in the first few weeks which will settle spontaneously.

Very rare but serious side effects including blindness and occluded blood vessels have been reported and will be discussed fully at the consultation.
